The Arton Collection is dedicated to preserving good things for future generations. We want children to grow up in a cleaner world, and our part is to eliminate the use of the chemicals that normally go into creating the average cotton t-shirt. That's one-third of a pound of chemicals that don't go into the ground, into the rivers and oceans, into the air, into your food, or onto your body.
Cotton is one of the most highly traded agricultural crops in the world. It is versatile and immensely popular. But the way it is usually grown requires a lot of chemicals - pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers - that are some of the most toxic substances in existence, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Overall, the farming of cotton accounts for 25% of the pesticide use in the U.S. In developing countries, most cotton is still picked by hand, and workers in those cotton fields are at risk for getting sick from all the chemicals on the crops.
Organic cotton is raised using more earth-friendly practices, like composting and crop-rotation. Instead of killing all insects, beneficial insects are introduced to control the population of the damaging bugs. The aim is to keep the soil, and the plants that grow in it, healthy and productive.
Arton also uses 100% organic, water-based inks. Our inks are free from PVC and phthalates that destroy the environment and have been associated with many medical issues including cancer, mental disorders, and infertility. Water based inks contain no ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFC's and HCFC's, aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile solvents. Water based inks wash off easily and safely with water.
We are committed to using 100% organic cotton and water-based inks.
